TED-1980 Teaching and Learning in the 21st Century


Credits 3
Intended for those students who wish to learn more about the teaching profession or for those who may be thinking of changing their majors or careers to the field of education. Students will learn about the different areas of education, the programs for teacher education at the college, what it means to be an introduction to the basic concepts and skills in the field. The course encompasses hands-on activities and out-of-class experiences for students to gain additional knowledge about the field of education. This course can be counted as an elective course for the ECE A.A.S. degree program.
Prerequisite(s): Reading proficiency.
Course Outcomes
  1. Identify the major roles and responsibilities of an early childhood educator.
  2. Discuss the implications that the Early Childhood Professional Code of Ethics (NAEYC) and other ethical documents have on early childhood practices.
  3. Explain various programs and careers in the field of education.
  4. Explain the role and purpose of play in education, and within the developmental growth of children.
  5. Compare the uses of lesson plans, activities, and units in early childhood.
  6. Identify significant issues and current trends, including legislation, pertaining to the profession.
  7. Identify methods of effective communication with families, the community, and other professionals.
  8. Identify resources for educators and education students at PGCC.
  9. Compare the usage of various pedagogical approaches in the field of education.
