TED-2000 Foundations of Education


Credits 3
This course introduces study of schools in the United States from historical, philosophical, political, and sociological perspectives. Current issues and practices in education are explored, looking at factors that influence schools, teaching, and learning.
Prerequisite(s): Reading proficiency; EGL-1010 . It is required that A.A.T. students take TED-2000 and TED-2001  concurrently.

Course Outcomes
  1. Demonstrate understanding of and give reasons for the teaching profession’s ethical standards.
  2. Explain fundamental principles of school law.
  3. Connect major themes in the history of American education to contemporary social, cultural, and philosophical issues in education.
  4. Analyze how social class, race, and gender relate to accessibility to educational opportunity and to students’ achievement and attainment.
  5. Explain curriculum and identify influences that affect to whom and how it is delivered.
  6. Identify and explain contemporary education issues.
  7. Become active participants in education communities.
