TED-2355 Inclusive Practices for Classrooms


Credits 3
This course focuses on appropriate inclusion strategies for including students with special needs in the general education classroom, grades pre-k-12. Activities and assessments will focus on the age/grade level(s) students teach or plan on teaching. This course can be counted as an elective course for the AAS in ECE degree program and is appropriate for teachers seeking recertification or who are currently teaching in the field.
Prerequisite(s): Reading proficiency. TED-1100 , TED-1200 , TED-1300 , and TED-1400 

Rule: ECE A.A.S. students must also take TED-1100  prior to taking 2000 level courses. For students seeking certification, or recertification, departmental permission/granted petition is required.
Course Outcomes

  1. Identify modifications and accommodations to the physical environment of the classroom to include children identified with each category of special needs.
  2. Identify modifications and accommodations to the instructional environment of the classroom to include children identified with each category of special needs.
  3. Identify modifications and accommodations to the social/emotional environment of the classroom to include  children identified with each category of special needs.
  4. Modify classroom lessons and activities for inclusion of students identified with  various categories of special needs. 
  5. Use appropriate pedegogical strategies to include students with special needs into the general education classroom.
