EGL-2390 Studies in Biblical Literature: The New Testament


Credits 3
Analysis of the Bible as literature, emphasizing major ideas, characters, themes, and literary techniques of the New Testament.
Prerequisite(s): EGL-1010 , EGL-1020 EGL-1100 EGL-1320 , or EGL-1340 .
Course Outcomes
  1. Analyze the relationship of the New Testament to the Old Testament. 
  2. Identify the origins and analyze the merits of translations of the New Testament into English.
  3. Analyze major ideas and themes developed in the New Testament and their application to world civilization.
  4. Identify and analyze the effect of the use of various types of literature and literary techniques in the New Testament.
  5. Analyze Jewish resistance as Christianity developed a major gentile following, and identify the roles of the major players in this development.
  6. Write short papers and an analytical essay on New Testament topics, all of which must have documented sources.
