MUS-1160 Music Theory II

Continuation of MUS-1150 . Music Theory 1160 continues with their studies of principles of diatonic harmony including secondary triads, non-harmonic tones, dominant and supertonic seventh chords, inversions, keyboard, solfeggio, dictation, and secondary dominant. Students will explore all the harmonic functions as well as phrase structure, various cadences, and chord progressions.

Course Outcomes

Identify the elements of harmony, including tonality, cadences, and form, by analyzing a musical score.
Construct triads, seventh chords, and secondary dominants, and their inversions, in four-part chorale texture.
Harmonize an existing melody in four-part chorale style, using Leading Tone, Supertonic, Mediant, Submediant, and Seventh chords, and inversions.
Identify aurally and notate intervals, scales, triads, melodies, and common harmonic progressions.
Sight sing scales, intervals, and melodies with solfeggio.
Play intermediate keyboard excerpts.
