HUS-2400 Therapeutic Recreation Credits 3 Equivalent Hours 0 This course explores various adaptive physical and recreational services designed to meet the needs of special populations in hospitals, recreation or rehabilitation centers, schools, etc. Emphasis is placed on understanding the individual in terms of age, psychological and physical development, handicaps, and their needs for recreation. The class will facilitate recreational activities at local agencies and venues, which may include a swim program. Community involvement, lesson planning, and periodic tests are required.

Course Outcomes
- Describe the history of therapeutic recreational services.
- Describe physical, occupational, and recreational therapies.
- Apply therapeutic techniques in a hypothetical case.
- Evaluate a client’s activities program by considering specific person/group characteristics, needs, disabilities, stage of development, age and health factors.
