PAR-2590 Domestic Relations


Credits 3
A study of the law and the practice of domestic relations, including prenuptial and separation agreements, divorce, alimony, child support, custody, and visitation. Emphasis is on the special pleadings and documents to be prepared for the courts, the agreements to be drawn between the parties, the grounds for divorce and separation, and the defenses presented.
Prerequisite(s): Reading proficiency.
Course Outcomes
  1. Compare and contrast the legal rights and duties of married and unmarried couples.
  2. Explain the grounds for annulment and divorce and the defenses to those actions.
  3. Evaluate current laws and regulations related to safety and fairness in the workplace.
  4. Evaluate the effectiveness of laws and procedures governing alternative family structures, domestic violence, gender roles in support and custody, adoption, surrogacy, and other alternative reproductive techniques.
