PAS-1030 Planning for Academic Success in Math


Credits 1
This course is designed to introduce study skill strategies for success in mathematics. Encourages students to explore their feelings about math and to develop strategies to overcome math avoidance and manage anxiety. Emphasis will be placed on note-taking, critical thinking, and preparing for, taking, and analyzing math tests. This course is open to students at all levels of mathematical skill.
Course Outcomes
  1. Examine and discuss specific patterns that lead to levels of discomfort both cognitive and affective.
  2. Demonstrate effective use of study skill strategies pertaining to math, i.e., time management, scheduling, math anxiety, test taking, listening and note taking, and remembering what you learn in math.
  3. Identify how management of mathematics differs from other subjects, i.e., specific math note taking system, language of math, etc.
