RAD-2980 Magnetic Resonance Imaging Credits 3 Advanced modality course providing students with knowledge in patient care, patient and public safety, general and special imaging procedures, physics and instrumentation, and quality assurance as they prepare for the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification exam in Magnetic Resonance Imaging. Prerequisite(s): RAD-2950 , Cross Sectional Anatomy, within past two years with a grade of C or higher or permission of Radiography Program Director. (Offered fall and spring.)
Course Outcomes
- Select patient assessment, preparation, and management techniques necessary for MRI imaging studies and contrast administration.
- Identify safety factors used to prevent adverse effects of radiofrequency and magnetism on the patient and public.
- Identify, via sectional anatomy, major structures of the head, neck, spine, and body.
- List the imaging protocols used in routine and minimally invasive MRI procedures.
- Associate components on the MRI console with their function in a MRI procedure.
- Outline the steps in MRI image processing and reconstruction.
- Outline the steps in MRI image acquisition, display, and storage.
- Identify recommended equipment quality control tests and appropriate scheduling.
- List causes of MRI image artifacts and solutions for correction.
