TED-2515 Mathematics and Science Strategies for Young Children Credits 3 This course focuses on infusing mathematics and science concepts and skills into classroom settings for young children. Students will identify appropriate concepts in mathematics and science for young children, as well as effective and developmentally appropriate strategies for teaching these concepts to young children. Prerequisite(s): Reading proficiency. TED-1100 , TED-1200 , TED-1300 , TED-1400 , and MAT-1050 or higher.
Rule: ECE AAS students must also take TED-1110 prior to taking 2000 level courses. For students seeking certification, or recertification, departmental permission/granted petition is required. Course Outcomes
- Identify appropriate mathematics and science concepts and skills to use in a classroom for young children (ages 3- grade 3).
- Construct appropriate play activities and/or learning centers to teach a variety of math and science concepts and skills to young children.
- Design and implement science and mathematics lessons for young children.
- Express appropriate pedegogical strategies which aid in the teaching of math and science skills and concepts at different age/grade levels.
- Examine developmentally appropriate strategies for teaching math and science skills and concepts to young children.
- Integrate math and science concepts and skills into other content areas and/or parts of the daily schedule.
- Communicate with parents appropriate ways to foster math and science learning outside of the classroom.
