TED-2650 Child Care Center Administration and Management


Credits 3
This course focuses on the administration and management of a childcare center. Emphasis is on meeting state requirements for physical facilities, licensing, insurance, and staffing childcare programs. Other topics include record keeping, budgeting, hiring, training and managing staff, food services, equipment, materials, community involvement and resources, and current topics in childcare.
Prerequisite(s): Reading proficiency. TED-1100 , TED-1200 , TED-1300 , and TED-1400 

Rule: ECE A.A.S. students must also take TED-1110   prior to taking 2000 level courses.

Course Outcomes

  1. Compare and contrast the roles and responsibilities of a director between types and sizes of centers
  2. Identify standards, laws, policies, and regulations required by licensing and accreditation for various types of early childhood centers.
  3. Articulate their vision, mission, and philosophy for their actual or intended childcare center
  4. Describe financial management techniques and practices for successfully managing different types and sizes of childcare centers.
  5. Evaluate the various appropriate and inappropriate curricular models for how they match to the vision, mission, and philosophy of their actual or intended childcare center
  6. Design a plan for equipping your childcare center, planning appropriately for budget restrictions, health and safety regulations, type and size of center, and program curriculum.
  7. Explain procedures and policies which impact day-to-day operations of a childcare center, including: emergency preparedness, behavioral issues, medical and/or health issues, nutrition, safety issues, parent issues, interaction with outside agencies.
  8. Describe effective management strategies for recruitment, retention, and development of childcare staff and teachers.
  9. List appropriate professional development opportunities available for all childcare employees and techniques to encourage participation in such opportunities.
  10. Explain strategies for effective collaboration with both parents and the community.
