TRF-1410 Introduction to Audio Production

Radio as a mass medium:  Origins and techniques of programming, scriptwriting, announcing, studio production, and station operation.
Prerequisite(s): Reading and oral proficiencies or ESL-0106  (formerly ESL-1060) with grade of C or higher.
2 class/2 lab hours.

Course Outcomes
 

  1. Define the historical developments and future trends of the radio industry including social, economic, and political factors.
  2. Explain scriptwriting, announcing, studio production, station operations, programming, sales positions and the role of the producer.
  3. Identify the various radio formats in radio programming.
  4. Define the techniques used in radio production.
  5. Explain the elements of programming using a Hot Clock.
  6. Explain and demonstrate the use of an audio board utilizing its various components.
  7. Explain the use of music and sound effects to produce audio programs.
  8. Write and produce a PSA, Aircheck, and commercial.
  9. Produce a 30-minute show (individual project) that includes a format of talk or music or a hybrid of both, newscast, community calendar, music sweep and commercial cluster.
