THE-1150 Technical Theatre Credits 3 THE 1150 provides an introduction to the essential principles and production techniques regarding the backstage technical elements for the theatre productions in community and professional venues. Explorationsin these specialized areas of Theatre and Entertainment and Technology are undertaken to begin establishing a professional canon. Students enrolled in this course are expected to be at a novice level of competency. This course consists of a lecture component (2 hour each week) and a laboratory session (2 hours each week). Students enrolled in this course are required to attend the live theatre performance(s) listed in the syllabus outside of scheduled class time. This experience is vital to understanding and learning about the performing arts and is tied directly to significant assignments in this class. Students enrolled in this course will be required to participate in a culminating performance to demonstrate proficiency in the course outcomes. Therefore, students will be required to attend production hours outside of scheduled class time during the final exam period to attend a technical rehearsal, final dress rehearsal, and performance. The specific requirements and details regarding the live theatre performance(s) and culminating performance are outlined in the syllabus. Students should pay special attention to these requirements. Prerequisite(s): Reading proficiency levels. (Not offered summer.)
Course Outcomes
- Hang stage draperies and scenic drops on the flying system as part of a stage crew.
- Build a theatrical flat according to plan as part of a stage crew.
- Install and brace stage scenery according to plan as part of a stage crew.
- Demonstrate the proper method of running, rolling and flying scenery.
- Hang and focus lighting instruments according to the plot as part of a stage crew.
- Operate equipment and execute cues during rehearsal and performance.
- Define standard stage technology.
- Use an architect’s scale to read and measure floor plans and light plots.
