THE-2040 Event and Conference Multimedia Production

THE 2040 provides an introduction to the essential techniques required of an A/V technician, familiarity in audiovisual equipment, routines of setting up special events and routines of working in convention and hotel venues is emphasized. Further explorationsin the basic skills within this specialized area of Theatre and Entertainment Technology are undertaken to begin establishing a professional canon. Students enrolled in this course are expected to be at a novice level of competency. This course consists of a lecture component (2 hour each week) and a laboratory session (2 hours each week). Students enrolled in this course are required to attend the live theatre performance(s) listed in the syllabus outside of scheduled class time. This experience is vital to understanding and learning about the performing arts and is tied directly to significant assignments in this class. Students enrolled in this course will be required to participate in a culminating performance to demonstrate proficiency in the course outcomes. Therefore, students will be required to attend production hours outside of scheduled class time during the final exam period to attend a technical rehearsal, final dress rehearsal, and performance. The specific requirements and details regarding the live theatre performance(s) and culminating performance are outlined in the syllabus. Students should pay special attention to these requirements
Prerequisite(s): Reading proficiency levels.

Course Outcomes
  1. Set up and operate visual aids for conferences and conventions.
  2. Operate recorded sound and media accompanying live presenters
  3. Operate slide projectors, video machines, and computer-generated images
  4. Exercise safe procedures on ladders, scaffolds, man lifts, snorkel lifts, and golf carts
  5. Explain the logistics of tents, ballrooms, hotel kitchens and outdoors
  6. Install and operate equipment under adverse conditions
  7. Use tools and equipment to convert a concrete and steel room into a showplace
