PRF-2020 Modern Dance Methods: Intermediate

PRF 2020 provides a reinforcement to the essential techniques required of modern dance by focusing on placement and alignment of the dancer’s body in conjunction a foundation for an effective method is developed. Students enrolled in this course are expected to be at an intermediate level of competency. This course consists of a lecture component (1 hour each week) and a laboratory session (2 hours each week)   Students may receive credit for either PRF 2020 or PRF-2021  towards the completion of their program. Students enrolled in this course are required to attend the live theatre performance(s) listed in the syllabus outside of scheduled class time. This experience is vital to understanding and learning about the performing arts and is tied directly to significant assignments in this class. Students enrolled in this course will be required to participate in a culminating performance to demonstrate proficiency in the course outcomes. Therefore, students will be required to attend production hours outside of scheduled class time during the final exam period to attend a technical rehearsal, final dress rehearsal, and performance. The specific requirements and details regarding the live theatre performance(s) and culminating performance are outlined in the syllabus. Students should pay special attention to these requirements.
Prerequisite(s): PRF-1020   or PRF-1021   completed with grade of C or higher or with permission of the Department of Humanities.
Note:  Students interested in this course are recommended to see a dance advisor in the Department of Humanities to ensure their placement into the correct course number and section which corresponds to their skill level.
Course Outcomes
  1. Demonstrate intermediate techniques of modern dance methods.
  2. Demonstrate intermediate self-awareness regarding movement within modern dance methods.
  3. Demonstrate intermediate music concepts and dance composition regarding modern dance methods.
  4. Demonstrate intermediate concepts of anatomy and kinesiology in application to modern dance methods.
  5. Perform an intermediate choreographed modern dance methods routine.  
  6. Describe a proactive application of Performing Arts or Entertainment Technology regarding a positive social change.
