MUS-1260 Songwriting I


Credits 3
The student will be able to demonstrate acceptable competency in the basic skills and techniques of songwriting, including melodic construction, harmonic progressions, and lyric writing and revision.
Prerequisite(s): MUS-1000 , and MUS-1410  with a grade of “C” or higher.
Corequisite(s): MUS-1410 .
Course Outcomes
  1. Utilize melodic sequences and phrase forms in melodies
  2. Utilize common chord progressions and phrase forms in harmonic progressions.
  3. Write augmented and diminished rhythms as well as superimposed meters
  4. Write rhythms to lyrics.
  5. Combine musical elements using a lead sheet format.
  6. Use correct music notation
  7. Construct functional chord progressions
