BMT-2750 Leadership Development


Credits 3
In this course students explore what leadership means through integrating readings from humanities, experiential exercises, films and contemporary research. Students explore their own leadership potential through a variety of practice types, and develop confidence to accept leadership roles. Topics include developing a personal leadership philosophy, building a team, and guiding through conflict. Students also explore ethics in leadership and how to realize change within an organization.

Prerequisite(s): Reading readiness

Course Outcomes
 

  1. Develop a personal leadership philosophy.
  2. Analyze the different facets, styles, and tasks of leadership.
  3. Connect the qualities of servant-leaders to the benefits they bring to organizations and society.
  4. Apply the elements of ethical leadership in an organizational context.
  5. Present a personal vision statement.
  6. Explore the foundations of effective teamwork
  7. Apply concepts of effective goal setting to personal, interpersonal, and career development.
  8. Use effective personal decision-making strategies to achieve goals.
  9. Apply techniques for guiding through conflict.
  10. Describe the leader’s role in realizing change within his/her organization.
