CSM-2310 Construction Entrepreneurship

The initial considerations and decisions needed to successfully start a construction company, plus the business and regulatory requirements that must be met during the startup phase of a construction business. 
Course Outcomes
  1. Create a viable business plan and vision statement for a construction company.
  2. Evaluate the internal resources – human, physical, and financial – that are on hand and will be required for a successful construction company startup.
  3. Identify the external resources – potential clients and types of jobs – that will be required for a successful construction company startup.
  4. Choose the business structure/organization that is best for a given construction company.
  5. Evaluate and determine the best method to track jobs in terms of cash flow, labor time and costs, and material costs, so that costs can be compared to budgets and bids.
  6. Determine a level of acceptable risk for the construction startup – what unknowns could affect the company in various manners.
  7. Identify the governmental issues affecting the construction startup – employment laws, OSHA requirements, environmental laws, etc.
