CSM-2480 Construction Estimating

Introduction to construction estimating, including its purpose, methods of preparing estimates, types of estimates, and handling of construction trades.
Prerequisite(s): CSM-1830.
Note: CSM-1410 may additionally be required, depending on student’s math aptitude. See coordinator to determine if this is needed.
Course Outcomes

Given a complete set of construction documents for a project, determine the quantities of materials and labor needed to create an estimate.
Given an estimate for a project, determine the necessary overhead, contingencies, and profit to produce a bid document.
For different estimating systems, contrast the amount of effort and detail put into the estimate with the accuracy of the estimate produced by that method.
Use reference sources such as handbooks and the Internet to estimate any incompletely specified portions of the construction documents.
Identify the variables in an estimate that may affect project cost, and use them correctly.
Use spreadsheet software to create a construction estimate.
