EGL-1020 Composition II: Writing About Literature Credits 3 Second semester composition using literature as the subject for discussion and writing. Study various kinds of literature (e.g., drama, poetry, short story). Prerequisite(s): EGL-1010 with grade of C or higher. Course Outcomes
- Formulate restricted, unified, and precise thesis statements for analytical essays about literary texts.
- Organize essay content into introduction, body, and conclusion paragraphs.
- Construct unified, coherent, and well-developed paragraphs with precise topic sentences.
- Apply grammar and usage rules correctly.
- Apply basic literary terms in the genres of poetry, fiction, or drama (for example, theme, imagery, rhythm, figurative language, tone, character, plot, etc.).
- Synthesize multiple sources into a research-based essay to support its thesis.
- Accurately integrate sources through summary, paraphrase, or direct quotation.
- Properly document sources through in-text parenthetical and end-of-text bibliographic documentation according to MLA style in order to avoid plagiarism.
