EGL-2250 Literature for Young Adults

Study of themes in literature marketed to adolescents (12-18) with focus on social and historical context. 
Prerequisite(s): EGL-1020, EGL-1100, EGL-1320, or EGL-1340.
Course Outcomes
  1. Identify and analyze recurring themes relevant to adolescent literature across a variety of genres.
  2. Explain the formation and definition of the category “Young Adult” in its social, historical, political, and/or economic context.
  3. Analyze the representation of identity in adolescent literature, especially in relationship to diverse populations.
  4. Write analytically about aspects of books for adolescents (including genre, style, and content) with appropriate documentation.
