EGL-2270 Applied Grammar Credits 3 Analysis of grammar, syntax, the history of the English language, and conventional usage. Application of principles through editing texts, constructing teaching units, and/or writing research papers. Prerequisite(s): EGL-1010 and EGL-1020 or EGL-1100 or EGL-1320 or EGL-1340, with a grade of C or higher. Course Outcomes
- Analyze the impact of key events and developments in the history of conventional English usage.
- Evaluate current models of grammar and syntax in light of their usefulness to writing.
- Analyze grammar patterns in light of their usefulness for specific writing tasks.
- Apply the principles of standard grammar and usage to editing texts for errors in rhetoric, syntax, case, tense, punctuation, and so forth.
- Design activities for presentation to the class, using principles of grammar and usage.
- Research a current grammar controversy and a best solution.
