EGL-2370 Studies in Biblical Literature: The Old Testament

Analysis of the Bible as literature, emphasizing major ideas, characters, themes, and literary techniques of the Old Testament.
Prerequisite(s): EGL-1010 and EGL-1020, EGL-1100, EGL-1320, or EGL-1340.
Course Outcomes
  1. Identify and analyze major themes and ideas developed in the Old Testament and their application to world civilization.
  2. Analyze types of biblical literature such as poetry, drama, short stories, biography, sermons, parables, etc.
  3. Identify and analyze the effect of the use of literary techniques in Hebrew prose and poetry.
  4. Analyze various theories of authorship regarding the apparent multiple authorship of some books of the Old Testament.
  5. Characterize major biblical personalities in the Old Testament.
  6. Write analytical essays, at least one of which must have documented sources.
