EGL-2370 Studies in Biblical Literature: The Old Testament Credits 3 Analysis of the Bible as literature, emphasizing major ideas, characters, themes, and literary techniques of the Old Testament. Prerequisite(s): EGL-1010 and EGL-1020, EGL-1100, EGL-1320, or EGL-1340. Course Outcomes
- Identify and analyze major themes and ideas developed in the Old Testament and their application to world civilization.
- Analyze types of biblical literature such as poetry, drama, short stories, biography, sermons, parables, etc.
- Identify and analyze the effect of the use of literary techniques in Hebrew prose and poetry.
- Analyze various theories of authorship regarding the apparent multiple authorship of some books of the Old Testament.
- Characterize major biblical personalities in the Old Testament.
- Write analytical essays, at least one of which must have documented sources.
