This course surveys African history from the development of early civilizations in East and North Africa through the era of European colonization in Africa to modern African nationhood.
Course Outcomes
  1. Analyze myths and stereotypes about Africa and their impact on the writing of African history.
  2. Analyze continuity and change in African cultures, from pre-historic times to the present.
  3. Examine differences and similarities between the Arab and European Slave Trades.
  4. Analyze the colonial era in African history and African resistance to colonial rule, including the pan-African movement.
  5. Analyze African struggles for independence and the legacy of colonial rule in Africa.
