MUS-2510 Digital Notation


Credits 3
This course covers technologies utilized in creating and publishing printed music using the computer and music notation software. Students produce printed vocal scores that include notation and lyrics and instrumental scores that accommodate transposing instruments. Students gain proficiency with state-of-the-art music publishing techniques. Careers that involve the use of digital music notation will be explored.
Prerequisite(s): MUS-1155  with a grade of C or higher or permission from the academic coordinator or chair.
Formerly (Formerly MUS-1510 . Students may not receive credit for both MUS-1510 and MUS-2510.)
Course Outcomes
  1. Execute procedures necessary to convert traditional handwritten music into digital notation using computer software.
  2. Reflect on musical traditions associated with the interpretation of musical scores, in a variety of musical genres and styles.
  3. Adapt printed vocal and instrumental music in a variety of score formats, including vocal, orchestral, and popular lead sheets.
  4. Assess methods used to publish, distribute, acquire and license scores.
  5. Discuss careers that require specialized skills in score reading and copying.
