PSC-1020 Introduction to Astronomy Laboratory


Credits 1
This course is a laboratory experience in astronomy for non-science majors. Labs include actual astronomical observations and techniques for studying spectra, planetary characteristics, stars, and galaxies. 
Prerequisite(s): PSC-1010 completed or concurrent and Reading readiness.
2 lab hours.
Course Outcomes
  1. Explain daily and annual motions in the heavens.
  2. Demonstrate the proper use of astronomical devices such as star charts, celestial spheres, and spectroscopes.
  3. Demonstrate the proper use of planetarium software packages and astronomical internet sites.
  4. Interpret astronomical photos and digital images.
  5. Compare and contrast spectra of elements and stars.
  6. Describe the vast distances between astronomical objects.
