TED-1300 Methods and Materials in Early Childhood Education

This course focuses on developmentally appropriate practices, pedagogical strategies, and appropriate materials for effectively teaching young children. Students plan developmentally appropriate units, lessons, and activities for young children in a variety of settings and content areas. Additional topics include: effective teachers, reflection, play, critical and creative thinking, and assessment.
Prerequisite(s): TED-1100 and TED-1200
Formerly ECE-2570.
Course Outcomes
 

  1. Write lesson plans to enhance development of young children in various content areas.
  2. Develop a unit that includes lessons in various content areas. 
  3. Apply Developmentally Appropriate Practices to a variety of content areas and learning environments.
  4. Describe how to incorporate various types of play in the learning environment. 
  5. Identify characteristics of effective teachers and the practices they engage in, including reflection
  6. Incorporate critical and creative thinking concepts and skills into learning and play.
  7. Select appropriate methods and materials to use with young children in a variety of content areas.
  8. Plan a variety of appropriate assessment tools.
