THE-2070 Voice and Diction Credits 3 THE 2070 focuses on the improvement of vocal skills and articulation through the study of basic vocal anatomy, releasing tension, connecting to the breath, and opening the student’s natural resonance. Students study how accents, dialects, and clear delivery impact a person’s ability to speak clearly. Emphasis is on refining one’s own voice and diction in a variety of professional settings. Additionally, students use the International Phonetic Alphabet to transcribe sounds of spoken communication. Prerequisite(s): COM-1010 or COM-1090 with grade of C or higher. Course Outcomes
- Apply techniques to correct vocal issues.
- Connect the International Phonetic Alphabet symbols with corresponding language sounds.
- Explain the functions of the speaking apparatus involved in breathing, phonation and articulation.
- Differentiate accents, dialects and Standard American English.
- Use clear speech in various professional settings.
