DAN-1050 Musical Concepts for Dance Credits 3 This course provides a fundamental understanding of musical concepts and skills in application to movement, dance composition, and performance. Students identify terms and symbols on musical scores, classify the elements of musical time, and examine the elements of melody. Additionally, students use musical texture in movement phrases and perform a choreographic study highlighting musical form and structure. Prerequisite(s): Prerequisites: DAN-1100/1120 or DAN 1200/1220 completed with a C or higher, or permission of the Academic Coordinator of Dance. Course Outcomes 1. Identify terms and symbols on musical scores.
2. Classify the elements of musical time.
3. Examine elements of melody.
4. Use musical texture in movement phrases.
5. Perform a choreographic study highlighting musical form and structure.
