HNV-2600 Intro to Population Health


Credits 3
This course serves as an introduction to population health from the perspective of healthcare and public health. Students explain the evolution of population health and its definition. Students also examine the key components of Healthy People 2030 and health reform initiatives to analyze the unequal distribution of health, examine social determinants of health and how they relate to access to care. Students explore the epidemiological sources and criteria as they relate to improved health outcomes. Additionally, students learn how community engagement impacts population health. Lastly, using case studies, students apply innovations to health systems and changes in health policy.

1. Explain evolution of population health and variations in definitions 2. Identify key components of Healthy People 2030 3. Describe the concept of health equity and health policy 4. Detect the link between social factors, health outcomes and access to care 5. Describe strategies for engaging stakeholders in population health interventions and partnership 6.
