ENT-2820 Internet of Things Devices and Technologies Credits 3 This course covers key hardware and software technologies involved in developing Internet of Things (IoT) devices and applications. It introduces sensor and actuator technologies, as well as machine-to-machine communications and sensor networks used in IoT applications. Various models of cloud computing, data storage and data analytics used in IoT will be explored. Hands on activities that include programming of Raspberry Pi and Arduino single-board computers used for integrating sensors and actuators in IoT devices will be employed. Various IoT implementations and technologies associated with Smart Cities, Smart Homes, Smart Grid, Healthcare, Agriculture, Environment and Manufacturing will be introduced. Prerequisite(s): ENT-1810 Internet of Things Fundamentals; INT-1111 Programming Logic and Design; INT-1550 Introduction to Networks: Network+ Preparation; ENT-2740 Digital Circuits. Course Outcomes 1. Describe the technologies and operations of the various types of sensors used in Internet of Things (IoT) devices 2. Explain the technologies and operations of the various types of actuators used in IoT devices 3. Describe the communication protocols and technologies used by IoT devices to communicate with each other and with associated applications 4. Explain how software controls the operations of sensors to collect and transmit data 5. Write programs on Raspberry Pi and Arduino boards to integrate sensors and actuators for IoT devices 6. Identify IoT security and privacy challenges and describe methods to secure IoT devices 7. Explain the installation, testing, monitoring, maintenance, and troubleshooting processes needed for IoT devices
