HNV-2520 Prevention and Community Health Credits 3 This course is designed to give students an introduction to the fundamental principles and methods used in community health with a focus on prevention and treatment of disease. Students explore primary, secondary and tertiary prevention as it relates to community health and health organizations that support the community. Students evaluate health information sources for validity and reliability. Additionally, students examine theories and models that are key to understanding concepts in community health. Through these concepts, students analyze community health problems and apply them through the social, political, economic, cultural and wellness lens with evidence-based methods.
Formerly HLE 2520 (Prevention and Community Health). Students may not receive credit for both HLE 2520 and HNV 2520. Course Outcomes 1. Explain the importance of health at the individual, group, and community levels.
2. Analyze the foundational principles of community health.
3. Apply the theories of health promotion programs.
4. Evaluate different sources of health information for validity and reliability.
5. Examine prevention models and treatment of diseases
