BLD-2210 NCCER Plumbing Level 1

This course provides the first level of training of the National Center for Construction Education & Research (NCCER) plumbing curriculum. Students gain an understanding of how plumbing systems work and the role and career path of a plumber in construction. They learn mathematics for the plumbing trade, how to read plumbing drawings and the basics of plumbing safety. They acquire the skills and knowledge needed to install plumbing fixtures and copper, plastic, cast iron, and steel piping systems. Successful completion of the course earns students the NCCER Plumbing Level 1 credential. This course is cross-listed with the following Continuing Education courses: PLM 300: Plumbing: Level 1, Part 1 AND PLM 301: Plumbing: Level 1, Part 2 AND PLM 302: Plumbing: Level 1, Part 3 AND PLM 303: Plumbing: Level 1, Part 4.

Course Outcomes
 

  1. Discuss the role and career path of the plumber in construction.
  2. Implement the safety requirements for various work hazards in the plumbing profession.
  3. Demonstrate proper usage, maintenance, and storage of plumbing tools.
  4. Calculate pipe lengths, fitting allowances, and other math as needed in plumbing.
  5. Interpret plumbing plans, details and, schedules for use in construction.
  6. Install piping systems made of copper, plastic, cast iron, and steel.
  7. Describe the selection and installation of plumbing fixtures.
  8. Identify the components of drain-waste-vent systems and water distribution systems.
