Program Description


The Computer Engineering Technology - Internet of Things (IoT) Tech Certificate Program prepares students for careers that focus on providing technical support for IoT devices and applications. Students receive a general background in electronics, software, computers, communication networks, as well as IoT technologies and applications. Some students may wish to take courses within this program to prepare for industry certifications such as CompTIA A+ certification, CompTIA Network+ and AWS Cloud Computing Architecture certification.

Program Outcomes


  1. Identify characteristics and features of widely used Internet of Things (IoT) applications
  2. Describe the functions of the main hardware components and technologies used in IoT devices
  3. Explain how the main IoT communication protocols are used in IoT applications
  4. Describe the operations of the various sensor and actuator technologies utilized in IoT applications
  5. Identify types of IoT sensors used capture and transmit data under software control
  6. Identify key features and functions of IoT software present in commonly used IoT applications
  7. Explain how software controls and manages IoT devices
  8. Explain how data is generated/gathered, transmitted, stored and analyzed by IoT applications
  9. Install, test, monitor, maintain and secure IoT hardware and software components
  10. Troubleshoot and resolve problems found in IoT devices
