Program Description


The Business Administration A.S. degree is the recommended pathway for students planning to pursue a bachelor’s degree in business and related disciplines. The curriculum in this program establishes a foundation of skills and knowledge in the fields of business, accounting, economics, statistics, communication, and management theory. Students learn effective decision making, problem solving, and leadership skills that are necessary for business and its related fields. Additionally, students learn to apply general business management principles, synthesize business, financial, legal, and ethical concepts, prepare financial statements, and analyze business-related data.

Program Outcomes


Graduates of the Business Administration A.S. will be able to:

  • Apply general business management principles to a variety of situations and business environments.
  • Examine economic concepts and governmental impacts on business.
  • Synthesize business, financial, legal, and ethical concepts and processes to develop a business.
  • Prepare financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Analyze business related data with and without a statistical software package.
  • Examine the role of leadership in business, including professional image, dealing with conflict, and working with others.

Below are the required courses for your program arranged in a suggested sequence. Please note that the sequence does not include developmental coursework. See Academic Preparation  for the developmental course sequence if applicable to you.

Required Courses (in expected order)


Program Total: 60 Credits


The two Social Science General Education courses must be from different disciplines.

Transferability


Credit earned at any public institution in the state shall be transferable to any other institution if the:

  • Credit is from a college or university parallel course or program;
  • Grades in the block of courses transferred average 2.00 or higher; and
  • Acceptance of the credit is consistent with the policies of the receiving institution governing students following the same program. Refer to ARTSYS at artweb.usmd.edu and the receiving institution’s catalog to select transferable courses.
