Program Description

The Computer Engineering Technology Program prepares students for careers in computers, networking and Internet-of-Things (IoT) fields. Students receive a general background in electronics, software, computers, communication networks, as well as IoT technologies and applications. In addition, students receive specialized training in the assembly, configuration, diagnosis, and repair of personal computers. By proper choice of electives, mathematics, and science courses, A.A.S. graduates may transfer into the B.S. in Computer Engineering Technology program at Capitol Technology University. Certificate programs, with fewer credit requirements, lead into the A.A.S. program without loss of credit. Some students may wish to take courses within this program to prepare for industry certifications from Computing Technology Industry Association such as, CompTIA A+ certification and CompTIA Network+ certification.

Program Outcomes

Graduates of the Computer Engineering Technology A.A.S. will be able to:

  • Analyze all types of ac and dc circuits using various methods of circuit analysis.
  • Use operating systems such as Windows and Linux used on personal computers and servers.
  • Design, analyze, and troubleshoot standard digital circuits.
  • Create programs for a microprocessor or microcontroller.
  • Analyze and troubleshoot computer hardware and software by understanding system organization, data representation, memory management, and interrupts.
  • Configure, test, monitor and maintain small to medium size communications network.
  • Install, test, maintain, and secure Internet of Things (IoT) hardware and software components.
  • Analyze issues to resolve IoT device or application related problems.
  • Use critical thinking techniques and the student’s general technical body of knowledge to research a problem and provide a creative, well-documented solution for a technical problem in which the student has no specific background.
  • Produce a comprehensive written report and oral presentation describing a research project.
