TED-1400 Introduction to Multicultural Education Credits 3 An introduction to the principles, concepts, and strategies of multicultural education. Emphasis is on using this knowledge to be able to create a classroom environment that is respectful of all students’ cultures, recognizes the complexity of the world in which they live, and utilizes a variety of tools to foster multicultural awareness. Prerequisite(s): Reading proficiency. Students must pass TED-1100 and TED-1200 with grade of C or higher, and students must pass TED-1110 with grade of B or higher.
Rule: TED-1110 is only required for ECE A.A.S. students. Students must pass TED-1110 with grade of B or higher. It is recommended that ECE A.A.S. students take TED-1100 and TED-1110 concurrently. ECE-1700. (Not offered summer.)
Course Outcomes
- Identify the role culture plays in child development and child rearing practices.
- Modify activities and lessons to reflect multicultural principles, concepts, and/or strategies.
- Evaluate whether literature and instructional materials promote respect and reflect diversity.
- Describe communication techniques which foster respectful communication with parents, children, and colleagues.
- Use various multicultural approaches to create a positive classroom environment.
