PRF-2601 Stage Craft and Event Fabrication Technology

PRF 2601 provides an introduction to the foundations of stagecraft fabrication techniques utilized in the Performing Arts and Entertainment Technology and their application and installation. Explorations of carpentry, rigging, metalworking, divergent material working, stage painting, and tool identification, use, and safety are undertaken to begin establishing a professional canon. This course consists of a lecture component (2 hours each week) and a laboratory session (2 hours each week).Students enrolled in this course are required to attend the live theatre performance(s) listed in the syllabus outside of scheduled class time. This experience is vital to understanding and learning about the performing arts and is tied directly to significant assignments in this class. Students enrolled in this course will be required to participate in a culminating performance to demonstrate proficiency in the course outcomes. Therefore, students will be required to attend production hours outside of scheduled class time during the final exam period to attend a technical rehearsal, final dress rehearsal, and performance. The specific requirements and details regarding the live theatre performance(s) and culminating performance are outlined in the syllabus. Students should pay special attention to these requirements.
Prerequisite(s): PRF-1301  or PRF 1401 completed with grade of C or higher or concurrent enrollment in PRF 1301 or PRF1401, or with permission of the Department of Humanities.

  2. Apply the safe usage of the fundamental tools and apparatus utilized in event staging, fabrication, and construction regarding Performing Arts and Entertainment Technology.
  3. Explain the fundamental techniques of rigging, carpentry, metal working, plastics working, and other divergent fabrication mediums.
  4. Perform the fundamental techniques of rigging, carpentry, metal working, plastics working, and other divergent fabrication mediums.
  5. Describe a proactive application of Performing Arts or Entertainment Technology regarding a positive social change.
