A survey of African-American folk tradition and literature from pre-1800s to 1920 Harlem Renaissance in the 1920s.
Prerequisite(s): EGL-1020 , EGL-1100 , EGL-1320 , or EGL-1340 .

Course Outcomes
  1. Identify, interpret, and analyze the different forms of African-American literature.
  2. Analyze how African-American literature reflects the times during which it was created.
  3. Apply literary and critical terminology and concepts, demonstrating their use in understanding and appreciating African-American literature.
  4. Write analysis-driven essays and a research-style paper with documented sources.
