TRF-2340 Digital Video Editing

An Introduction to the theory and practice of post-production techniques and aesthetics, while exploring key terms, functions, and concepts of non-linear editing. Students will learn the equipment and processes used to manipulate video and audio using professional nonlinear editing software.
Prerequisite(s): TRF-1330  with grade of C or higher.
2 class/3 lab hours.

Course Outcomes
  1. Develop skills in all phases of non-linear editing using industry-standard editing equipment and software.
  2. Comprehend common editing terms and vocabulary.
  3. Translate script and/or storyboard to the editing process in order to cultivate personal expression through video storytelling.
  4. Demonstrate digitizing video capture, importing supporting audio and visual elements, and organizing raw footage.
  5. Edit dialogue and audio content for continuity.
  6. Perform insert and overwrite edits, trim edit points, use the ripple, roll, slip, slide and extend tools to adjust edit points.
  7. Apply transitions between video and audio elements; add narration, sound effects, music, still images, titles, graphics and VFX (visual) effects.
  8. Output completed video to DVD, digital formats (Flash, QuickTime, MP4), or web distribution.
