NUM-2140 Clinical Nuclear Medicine IV

This course is a directed, competency-based experience in a different affiliated hospital from previous clinical experience courses. Clinical experience courses provide the opportunity for students to observe, practice, and perform routine diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine procedures. Licensed and certified technologists provide critiques, guidance, and mentorship to the students. On-site lectures by board-certified physicians supplement the clinical experience. This is the fourth course in a sequence of five clinical education courses; students will have the opportunity to demonstrate an increased level of independence and competence when performing various skills requisite of the nuclear medicine technologist.
Prerequisite(s): NUM-2130  with grade of C or higher.
Corequisite(s): NUM-2130  with grade of C or higher.
Course Outcomes
  1. Perform routine imaging procedures within the department.
  2. Perform non-routine procedures with the use of the department procedure manual.
  3. Perform quality control procedures on imaging equipment, radiopharmaceuticals, and ancillary equipment (dose calibrator, survey meter, etc.).
  4. Critique quality control results and data.
  5. Correctly operate all imaging and ancillary equipment in the department.
  6. Correctly sequence multiple studies.
  7. Demonstrate the correct method of disposing of radioactive and non-radioactive waste.
  8. Maintain all records as required by TJC, state, and NRC (if applicable).
  9. Demonstrate correct decontamination procedures.
  10. Model the processes involved in therapeutic procedures.
