MUS-1440 Recording Technology I Credits 3 This course takes the student through the basics of acoustics and psycho-acoustics, microphone design and placement techniques, consoles and stereo recording principles, signal flow, gain staging, patchbays, along with studio safety procedures and practices. Students will also conduct hands-on recording sessions of various different musical instruments, ensembles and genres. Prerequisite(s): Prerequisite MUS-1000 , and MUS-1500 . Corequisite(s): MUS-1420 . Course Outcomes
- Demonstrate a basic knowledge of psychoacoustics as it relates to audio recording
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of microphones
- Demonstrate knowledge of recording studio hardware, software, and procedures
- Explain topics using vocabulary and concepts from the audio recording field
- Make a recording utilizing the music department studio
- Judge the relevance of the application of specific technologies to audio recording and presentation.
- Practice proper studio and control room safety procedures.
- Record and edit music on a Digital Audio Workstation and hardware recording console
