ENT-2740 Digital Circuits

Credits 4
Course covers digital circuits from simple gates to complex gate arrays (FPGA). Encoders, multiplexers, adders, counters, and flipflops, number systems, Boolean algebra, and combinatorial logic circuits are also covered.
Prerequisite(s): ENT-1730
Formerly (Formerly ENT-1800. Students may not receive credit for both ENT-1800 and ENT-2740.)
3 class/3 lab hours.
Course Outcomes
1. Describe the decimal, binary, octal and hexadecimal numbering systems and ASCII code.

2. Explain digital signals and switches in electronics circuits

3. Explain the operation and use of AND, OR, Inverter, NAND, NOR as well as exclusive-NOR and exclusive-OR logic gates.

4. Describe how Programmable Logic Devices are used to solve basic logic designs.

5. Use Boolean algebra laws and rules and De Morgan’s theorem to simplify combinational logic circuits.

6. Perform binary arithmetic operations.

7.  Explain operation of code converters, multiplexers and demultiplexers.

8. Explain the circuit operation of flip-flops, registers, shift registers and counters.
