A survey of European and American science fiction with emphasis on history, themes, forms, and relationship to Western culture and literature.

Prerequisite(s): EGL-1020, EGL-1100, EGL-1320, or EGL-1340.

Course Outcomes

Identify major authors, titles, and trends in the history of science fiction.
Explain how a science fiction text reflects the social, cultural, and intellectual climate when the work was written.
Write essays, one of which must contain research, analyzing some important science fiction texts.
