FOS-2520 Forensic Aspects of Drug Identification and Abuse

This course is an overview of how the human cravings for illicit and licit drugs affect human behavior. Topics include drug identification, federal laws and schedules, pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, and toxicology as it pertains to commonly encountered abused and toxic substances. 
Prerequisite(s): FOS-2500
Course Outcomes
 

  1. Examine addiction, tolerance and withdrawal for psychoactive drugs.
  2. Evaluate the scope of neurochemical and biological drug use and abuse.
  3. Discuss the routes of administration and toxic effects of various legal and illegal drugs.
  4. Analyze historical, current and future trends of drug use and abuse, Federal Drug Schedules, and their legal impact.
