FOS-2540 Physical Identifiers: Fingerprinting Techniques


Credits 3
An examination and application of the science of fingerprints, using current methods of detection, development and preservation. This course will also examine basic fingerprint identification theory, processing techniques and the fingerprint identification role within forensic science.
Prerequisite(s): FOS-2500
Course Outcomes
 

  1. Describe the history and different types of fingerprints.
  2. Develop latent fingerprints from various items and types of evidence using powder and chemical techniques.
  3. Perform friction ridge comparison of fingerprint patterns using ACE-V Methodology.
  4. Evaluate the theories and principles of the Henry and NCIC classification systems and AFIS technology.
  5. Analyze legal issues related to fingerprints and the preparation and procedures for testifying in court as an expert witness.
