HIM-1505 Healthcare Delivery Systems

An examination of the complex, rapidly changing healthcare system in the United States. The healthcare system’s major components and their characteristics are identified. Emphasis is on current healthcare settings, compliance, reimbursement and delivery. Students discuss the options and trends in managed care. Additionally, data and information requirements as specified by the accreditation organizations are examined.
Prerequisite(s): HIM-1500.
Course Outcomes
 

  1. List the types of services provided by non-acute health care settings.
  2. Examine compliance requirements throughout the various healthcare settings that may impact reimbursement.
  3. Discuss options and trends in managed care  to patients, hospitals and other care providers.hospitals and other care providers.
  4. Compare/contrast the data and information requirements specified by the accreditation organizations and federal regulations for various healthcare settings (i.e. ambulatory care, long term care, etc.).
  5. Summarize how an integrated health care system is structured in the United States.
