HIM-2560 Health Information Practicum II


Credits 1
This is the medical coding professional practice experience. Students are supervised in a simulated laboratory and /or a professional practice setting where they are orientated to the organization’s medical coding reimbursement services. The emphasis is on ICD 10-CM/ ICD 10- PCS and CPT/HCPCS coding systems using encoder and grouper software, data abstracting and data retrieval from indices. 
Prerequisite(s): HIM-1600
12 clinical hours.
Course Outcomes
 

  1. Perform inpatient and ambulatory diagnoses coding for reimbursement.
  2. Perform inpatient and ambulatory procedure coding for reimbursement. 
  3. Demonstrate entry level competency in regulatory compliance of health record content within the health organizations.
  4. Utilize medical coding software.
