HIM-2560 Health Information Practicum II
Credits 1 This is the medical coding professional practice experience. Students are supervised in a simulated laboratory and /or a professional practice setting where they are orientated to the organization’s medical coding reimbursement services. The emphasis is on ICD 10-CM/ ICD 10- PCS and CPT/HCPCS coding systems using encoder and grouper software, data abstracting and data retrieval from indices.
Prerequisite(s): HIM-1600
Course Outcomes
- Perform inpatient and ambulatory diagnoses coding for reimbursement.
- Perform inpatient and ambulatory procedure coding for reimbursement.
- Demonstrate entry level competency in regulatory compliance of health record content within the health organizations.
- Utilize medical coding software.
