HST-2100 History of Women in America

This course serves as an introduction to the study of American women from colonial times to the present. It examines the ways in which perceptions of gender have shaped the roles women have played in America. It also examines how gender has intersected with ethnicity, race, and class to both unite and separate women.

Course Outcomes
  1. Explain the role of women in the colonial period.
  2. Explain the concept of “Republican Motherhood” and the “Cult of Domesticity.”
  3. Analyze the role of women in 19th and 20th century reform.
  4. Identify the role of women in World War I and World War II.
  5. Explain the concept of the “Feminine Mystique.”
