NUR-1040 Physiological Integrity I


Credits 5
This course is designed to assist students to meet the healthcare needs of clients with commonly occurring acute and chronic health disorders. Physiological and psychosocial adaptation, prevention and early detection, and self-care will be emphasized, with a focus on maintaining a safe, effective care environment and the application of previously learned skills and information. Pharmacological concepts will be integrated throughout the course content. Clinical experiences will be provided in a variety of supervised, structured health care settings.

Corequisite(s): NUR-1030
15 weeks/2.5 class/6 clinical/1.5 lab hours.
Course Outcomes
 

  1. Implement appropriate nursing principles to ensure safe medication administration.
  2. Identify priorities of care for the client with acid-base and fluid and electrolyte imbalances.
  3. Identify priorities of care for the client with immune deficiencies and community acquired infectious diseases.
  4. Analyze actual and potential health risks for the client during the perioperative experience.
  5. Identify nursing management of clients with acute and chronic genitourinary alterations in health.
  6. Execute an appropriate nursing plan of care for the client with acute and chronic alterations in gastrointestinal health.
  7. Interpret actual and potential health risks for clients with commonly occurring musculoskeletal alterations in health.
  8. Execute an appropriate nursing plan of care for the client with acute and chronic alterations in respiratory health.
  9. Execute appropriate nursing plan of care for the client with acute and chronic alterations in cardiovascular health.
